English Communication Workshop

The first session of the English Communication Workshop was held on Saturday, 10th January 2009 at the VIP Lounge, Crystal Block at PESB Centre of Excellence. The speaker was Mr Phil Abbot from the British Council who has 10 years experience in English writing and communication skills. There were 18 participants present at the workshop among them were executives from various departments, Sales Officers and Sales Support Assistants. The participants were exposed to modern English writing and communication skills and guidelines. This will enhance the English proficiency and confidence level of all participants when using the English language in delivering their duties, including better customer service.

The major course contents covered during the workshop were as follows:

• An introduction to business writing
• Barriers to written communication
• Planning and organizing your correspondence
• Effective writing skills
• Layout and checking your documents
• Tips for proofreading

The most interesting section was the group exercise for experiential and better understanding of theory application to actual preparation of letters, memos, report writing and emails.

The next session of the workshop will be conducted on Saturday, 31st January 2009 at the same venue.
